Directions: “Synthesis” is defined as the combination of separate elements of thought into a unified whole. Write a well-developed synthesis essay that focuses on a theme, character, or other literary element that Anne Sexton’s poem “Cinderella” and Charles Perrault’s “Cinderella; or, The Little Glass Slipper” have in common. The essay should be written in four-paragraph structure. Observe MLA formatting guidelines when typing the essay.
You should integrate lines from the poem and passages from the story to support your argument. Remember, when integrating direct quotations from the attached works, you must parenthetically cite the quoted material. When citing lines from the poem, the poet’s last name and line numbers should be placed inside parentheses at the end of the sentence. When citing quotations from the story, the author’s last name and page numbers should be placed in parentheses at the end of the sentence.
