The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) “has the authority to investigate charges of discrimination against employers who are covered by the law” and can attempt to settle cases or file charges (n.d.). States also have specific statutes that prevent discrimination in hiring.
Locate a state law that addresses discrimination (no repeats please). Once you locate a law please summarize the protections afforded by this law, and answer the following questions:
What state did you research?
Who is protected under the specific state discrimination statute you located?
How does this differ from federal protections? For example, compare and contrast the state and federal statutes.
What are the remedies under this statute?
Is this statute fair?
Once you have posted your response, please respond to at least two students. Discuss their research, the protection afforded to employees, and their assessment of what is and is not fair. Please ensure your comments are constructive. Provide knowledge that helps other students learn from your ideas. This builds a collaboratively-learning community.
