Purpose: The purpose of this career based essay is to show that you can read and research multiple sources and integrate them into one cohesive argument by employing a variety of rhetorical strategies, using logos, pathos, and/or ethos, to meet the demands of a particular writing purpose and a specific audience, which in this case is to persuade college students to pursue a specific
career path since “Career planning helps students frame their academic classes and experiences from the perspective of their career goals, which research shows enhances their rates of success, persistence, and completion” (SDICCA Consortium).

Remember to state your thesis as a complete sentence that answers the essay prompt. Make sure your thesis is written in the third person, not the first person. So, use college students/they instead of I think . . . or you should.

Task & Essay Prompt: Choose a career based on what you might want to do after you graduate
with your bachelor’s degree. In a two-to-three-page essay, persuade college students to pursue this
career by explaining as much as you can about the career and why they should choose it. In the
essay, quote at least three sources including videos we have watched; essays we have read and watched in this class, cited correctly.
You may persuade students by using the third person, they, but you may not use the first person, I. Include reader benefit or why this person would benefit from pursuing this career.
State logical reasons: intellectually stimulating, emotionally rewarding, financially rewarding, helping the disadvantaged, making a difference in the community, helping children, vacation time to pursue other interests, sick pay in case of an emergency/illness, working with people, working with computers, improving the city’s infrastructure, retirement benefits, yearly salary,
